Trails of Cold Steel - V

Description

Today we have academy student Linde spanking her twin sister Vivi.
These two are some of the most fun and memorable side characters of the game I think.
Linde is a more serious and mild mannered girl, while her sister Vivi is mischivious and loves to play pranks on people.
Often that involves disguising herself as her twin and making things awkward for everyone involved while she's enjoying the show.
Needless to say that this makes her one of the most spankable characters in the game as well and her sister the one most justified spanker.

To celebrate the upcoming PC-Version of 'Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel' on August 2nd I decided to make a series of pictures featuring characters from the game.

After Persona the 'Legend of Heroes' is probably my second most favorite JRPG franchise and I wanted to use the opportunity to show it some love with a picture each day until release.

The first Trails of Cold Steel game that's now coming to Steam is the starting point for the newest trilogy of the series and in my opinion as good a jumping on point as any.
It even comes with 50% more voiced dialogue than the original PS3 and Vita releases.

In the game the player takes the role of Rean Schwarzer, a young man starting his new life at a prestigious military academy that educates both commoners and nobles alike.
Rean soon discovers that he was selected to be a member of the experimental new Class VII, where talented young men and women of various social spheres and backgrounds are brought together to follow a new and equally experimental curriculum.
In addition to the normal academy work Class VII is send out each month to a different region of the nation and over time become more and more aware of the rising tension between various factions exerting their influence in the country.

The game has a relatively slow pace in the beginning and takes its time for world-building and character introductions, which I really like.
Instead of a 'travel the world and defeat the demon lord' kind of plot, the game takes place almost entirely inside the borders of a single nation and explores its various escalating social and political issues as well as the rising tension with neighboring countries.
For someone like me who loves detailed world building and a conflict beyond the usual good versus evil, this is an amazing experience.
Things start to escalate quickly in the later chapters of the game, at which point you're likely to care very much about the fate of these characters and places you've gotten to know so well in the beginning parts.
For me at least it worked very well.

One of the biggest selling points of the series is how lived in the world feels. Most of the NPCs have relationships and story-lines that will change and evolve over the course of the game.
These side-stories will progress regardless of whether the player is there to witness them or not, which once again adds to the feeling of a lived in world.
The characters aren't solely defined by their relationship with the protagonist, like they are so often in other games.
Your party members as well will not only have interactions with the player character but also with each other and form friendships and rivalries with other side characters over the course of the games.
It's great fun to watch these things go on and change over time in parallel to the main plot.

Game play wise it is somewhat similar to Persona, though without the time management aspect.
The game has a very firm structure with the academy serving as the hub of the adventure.
You socialize and do various things at the academy each chapter before being send of to a new destination outside where the meat of the plot and character development happens usually.
The turn based combat system is very fun and offers a lot of options to experiment and tactics to try out.

As you can might have guessed by now I love this game and this franchise.
If you are in the mood for a long JRPG and haven't tried it already I heartily recommend it.
